How to Plan a 5-Day Golden Triangle Tour of India
A balanced five-day route through Delhi, Agra and Jaipur with realistic travel times, essential landmarks and advice for a comfortable private journey.

India's Golden Triangle connects Delhi, Agra and Jaipur in a route filled with Mughal architecture, royal palaces, colourful markets and unforgettable food. Five days is enough for a rewarding introduction when the itinerary is carefully paced.
Day 1: Old and New Delhi
Begin with Old Delhi's Jama Masjid, the lanes around Chandni Chowk and a view of the Red Fort. Continue to New Delhi for India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar and the broad avenues around the government district.
Day 2: Delhi to Agra
Travel to Agra by private car on the Yamuna Expressway. Visit Agra Fort and enjoy a sunset view of the Taj Mahal from Mehtab Bagh. Staying overnight in Agra makes the next morning far more relaxed.
Day 3: Sunrise Taj Mahal and Jaipur
Visit the Taj Mahal around sunrise, return to your hotel for breakfast and continue toward Jaipur. On the way, stop at Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar's remarkably preserved former capital.
Day 4: Jaipur's forts and palaces
Explore Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the exterior of Hawa Mahal. Leave time for Jaipur's bazaars, where textiles, jewellery, block printing and traditional crafts make excellent souvenirs.
Day 5: Jaipur to Delhi
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before returning to Delhi. Depending on your flight time, you may add a local market, museum or food experience before your airport transfer.
How to make the route comfortable
- Use a private air-conditioned vehicle for flexible stops
- Choose centrally located hotels to reduce city travel time
- Start major monument visits early
- Keep at least one relaxed evening in the itinerary
- Confirm guide and ticket arrangements before arrival
A private Golden Triangle itinerary can be adjusted for families, senior travellers, photographers and guests who prefer a slower pace.
